Knowledge Is Power

Resources

Withdrawal 101  At Gianna Kalis blog Beyond Meds. This is the most complete resource online that I am aware of on the how behind getting free from psychotropic drugs

Surviving Antidepressants Support from those who have “been there and done that” in withdrawing from anti depressants. This particular page takes you to a speech written by Dr Mark Foster who was fired from his job for choosing to prescribe less and help more.

PsychDiagnosis by Paula Caplan discusses the harm and shares stories of those harmed by being marked and labeled with a mental health diagnosis.

Mad In America is the blog by Robert Whitaker and home to numerous contributing authors. A must read regularly for me.
Recovery From “Schizophrenia” and Other “Psychotic” Disorders is the first site I’ve seen that addresses the “extreme states” of “mental illness” in a way that takes them from fantasy, fiction and pathology of the human condition that I would consider using as a reference source.  Ron Unger is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with his own “lived experience” around these issues. He speaks from a direct approach about the issues that psychiatry has used to mark particular individuals as “genetically” deficit and provides information and insight that I find helpful.
My disclaimer: it is assumed that anyone who chooses to visit any of these sources is doing so of their own volition. Posting, sharing or referencing the work of others is in no way an endorsement of their entire body of work.
Self Help – Resources to address the issues that often drive us to seek “help”
Guess What Normal Is - Amy does a great job of sharing her insights related to growing up in severe family dysfunciton. While she writes from her perspective of living in a home with parents who were themselves struggling with life issues and alcoholism….the idea here is to simply understand that regardless of the “issues” we grew up with – the solution is always the same: learning how to give ourselves what we did not get in the dysfunction/abuse/oppression.
Heal and Grow for Acoa’s -  again, another site that teaches from the perspective of an alcoholic home but the content is applicable to anyone who grew up in a dysfunctional family system that left us ill equipped to deal with life on life’s terms from a mature, adult perspective.

My other places…where you can find me:

Proactive Planning My other blog…”Under Construction” this will be the resource page my Proactive Planning workshop and materials for learning to create your own proactive plan to reduce, withdraw from psych drugs. Planning and preparing to make this change is the best way to make it a successful and long lasting change.

A Journey  This is my personal blog, where I share my story, the journey I’ve been on and the how behind discovering the insightful “aha” moments that allowed me to learn to live beyond the past and create the future I wanted today.

Empowering Solutions  The Facebook Community where you can “Like” the page and get the daily notes about the healing journey in bite size pieces. All notes are based on the premise that each of us is capable to learn how to discover our own intrinsic power/sense of self and create the life we want instead of settling for the life we were given.

SusanKs  Under Construction. This will be my basecamp for all programs, blogs and community as we travel the journey from where we are to where we want to be. Lots happening. Slowly:)

Do you have a resource that should be included? Shoot me a link and I’ll take a gander at it. If it looks like a good fit I’ll put it up here. :)
