Diet, excessive use of pharmaceuticals….are a huge contributing factor to the declining health of American’s.
We have been conditioned to see our health from the perspective of “genetics”.
We get mixed messages from the Western model of medicine…that genetically we are defective, all of our health problems are genetic….there is nothing we can do because ill health is from genetics.
Then we are told to buy those new Nikes and hit the gym, grab that power drink and protein bar – that is full of white sugar, chemicals and caffeine.
A frustrating side effect of this is that once we actually do try to eat better and excercise we often don’t see the benefits of these activities – but often this is a result of the poor and inaccurate information we are being given via Western Medicine and the governing agencies that tell us what to eat, that its about counting calories, take a pill instead of eating well and so on.
This in turn reinforces the idea that we are simply genetically defective and must accept ill health as a way of life.
Yet – there are increasing numbers of Americans taking responsibilty to educate themselves and make the kinds of changes that can change ourselves from living in chronic long term ill health while we wait to die to a chronic state of physical health and mental well-being.
Taking a proactive stance begins with taking responsibility for learning the reasons we are the sickest, fattest and most addicted society on the planet and how we can indiviually create an optimal life beginning with the diet we consume.
Today – from the Mercola website….resolving chronic disease through a healthy diet. Its not about eliminating all fats or carbs but – its in learning to eat healthy fats and carbs.
Story at-a-glance: There are five different sources of evolutionary evidence pointing the way toward the optimal human diet. These form the basis for Dr. Jaminet’s eating plan, which includes the controversial hypothesis that zero- or extremely low-carb diets can lead to health challenges due to insufficient glucose consumptionNaturally-occurring toxins in food can have a significant health impact by disrupting bodily functions such as digestion. For example, a recent Japanese study showed that children who eat wheat every day score almost four points lower on IQ tests than those who eat rice. Cooked white rice is very low in toxins, while wheat contains a number of problematic compounds known to cause health issuesAccording to Dr. Jaminet, it is not common, but possible, to have a deficiency of dietary glucose that could have a detrimental effect on your immune system. About half of your proteins use glucose to work, and they require glucose as a functional element. Additionally, although low-carb diets normally improve blood lipids, extremely low-carb diets can paradoxically increase LDL and triglyceride levels.Dr. Jaminet’s “Perfect Health Diet” recommends 20-30 percent of daily calories to be in the form of rice or potatoes, aka ‘safe starches;’ 15 percent animal protein, and 55-65 percent healthy fats

We do not have to be sick and we do not have to suffer the way we do. We do not have to live in bondage to believing we need to consume massive quantities of drugs to maintain the warped sense of “health” we’ve been taught about by Western Medicine. We are not powerless over our state of well being.
