I found the following comment by Ann Blake-Tracy on Facebook. I”m not sure which article she is referencing but the thing I wanted to point out to day is her excellent presentation of how pharma KNEW what they were doing when they created this massive explosion of “bi polar disorder”.
Thank you Ann Blake-Tracy for all you have done in past decades and your unfailing commitment to sharing these truths.
“I disagree with this article. I watched this all happen and warned that it was happening while watching it. This is real, not something increased with the change in criteria of Bipolar diagnosis.
They created this explosion in Bipolar with the SSRI antidepressants and they did so knowing exactly what they were doing….why would I say that?
Well first Lilly introduced Prozac and their next psych drug was what? Zyprexa – the first NEW ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTIC MEDICATION. Pfizer introduced Zoloft several years after Prozac and then their next new psych drug was? That is right…Geodon, their NEW ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTIC MEDICATION.
Initially even psychiatrists would not prescribe SSRIs because of their strong potential to produce mania. These companies KNEW what they were doing – getting the patient coming and going – first for depression and then for the adverse reaction of mania. (Keep in mind that these drugs cost double what the antidepressants that caused the Bipolar for which the new atypical antipsychotic was prescribed to cure.)
As the use of SSRIs skyrocketed among youth in the late 90′s, early 2000′s the rate of Bipolar diagnosis skyrocketed from 1996 – 2004 by 4000%!!!!!
Malcomb Bowers, et all, from Yale published a study in 2000 demonstrating that 11% of those in psych wards with a bipolar diagnosis obtained that diagnosis from going manic on an antidepressant. (This was the case of Osama Bin Laden’s son. You can find his case in our database of cases at http://www.ssristories.drugawareness.org)
They went on to say that MOST physicians do not recognize that the Bipolar is antidepressant-induced so they expected the real percent of those going bipolar as a result of the antidepressant inducing it was FAR HIGHER. This is what I covered in my 2006 FDA testimony if you would like to read that on our drugawareness.org site.
An ANTI-depressant (the opposite of a depressant) is a stimulant. Stimulants over stimulate the brain which is seizure activity.
Mania is a continuous series of mild seizures.
And that is what antidepressants produce. That is why I put out my DVD, “Bipolar, Shympolar!
Are you really Bipolar or misdiagnosed due to the use of or abrupt discontinuation of an antidepressant?”
